Holistic Financial Coaching: How I began, what is it, and how does it work? Part One

Part 1 – How it began…Seeing a need.

As I started writing this blog, I realized how weighty this topic is. In order to keep this blog on the briefer side… I’ll break this matter down into several parts.

So I’m diving deep, reaching back into the early days when this idea of holistic financial practice began to emerge…

It all started by happy accident…

I’ve been in the accounting field since 1986-yes, I do know that I am dating myself… just had my 60th and damn happy to still be here!

Over the years, I’ve had thousands of appointments with people to talk about their money: organizing, tracking, tax planning and preparation, how to handle money, who do we trust to manage it, etc.

What I found over time is that most clients have a lot of financial fear and uncertainly around money, and it impacts their entire life, not just their checkbook. Their lives were made smaller by their fears (False Events Appearing Real) around money.

While I knew my job was to help the client with the money piece, in order to implement positive lasting change, along with truly wanting to help the human being in front of me in a positive way, I had to start looking at the whole person, not just the money.

Over time, my mission in these appointments became clear: how and where is money affecting these clients’ lives, and how can we, as a team, improve? I began focusing on the quality of their lives while also cleaning up their money relationship so they could thrive.

Now, at the same time I was noticing the needs of my clients in the office, I was also doing trainings outside the office for my own curiosity and personal growth. Over the years I’ve been certified as a yoga teacher, holistic health coach, and positive psychology coach.

I am also absolutely fascinated by psychic mediums and how they work-making connections made from people who’ve crossed over, knowing things about our lives… how mediums know and see those things just blows my mind.

From all the books I read, I understood that we all have these psychic abilities… so with deep curiosity in hand, I decided to take the plunge outside my very Virgo traditional-thinking brain that likes hard data-no woo-woo wah-wah crap for this gal-and explore this fascination.

So for six years every Tuesday night, a core group of us worked with my dear friend David Merritt. David is not only a wonderful human being, but an amazing channel, psychic medium, and healer.

In those classes that I began to hear, interpret, and understand that the internal knowing I had was real and was validated time and time again with real evidence. I learned how to listen to that the inner voice with more confidence, and I learned to call it my intuition… and we all have it!

Meanwhile, back in the office, with the integration of my two lives-personal and business-the holistic coaching approach was born. Positive psychology (mind), yoga (body) and intuition (spirit) combined with the practical knowledge I have in finances, to me, is a clear pathway for healing both clients and their money.

A truly holistic approach…

Back to the question at hand-what does “holistic financial coaching” mean exactly?

Ultimately, it means we look at, treat, balance, and heal the whole human being, not just the money…

And I’ve watched as it has miraculously healed many…
